Public Benefits

The public benefits associated with the development are summarised below:

Social:

  • Provision of 72 high-quality student bed spaces to help meet demand.
  • The release of 30 dwellings back to traditional housing.
  • Retention of ‘Design4Life’, a business which provides community support for individuals with severe disabilities.

Environmental:

  • Efficient use of an existing building and previously developed land in a highly sustainable location.
  • 21.09% total CO₂ reduction beyond residual emissions and a 41.35% total CO₂ reduction beyond Part L.

Economic:

  • Creation of 40-50 full time construction jobs.
  • During an 18 month construction period, generation of circa £6.4m-£9.3m gross value added (GVA) to the local economy.
  • During its operation £0.9m/year additional spend in the local area, for the benefit of local shops and services.
