Drainage Strategy

Surface water will be managed using Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), including basins and swales that store and slowly release water at greenfield rates. These features are designed as attractive green spaces, delivering benefits for biodiversity, recreation and visual amenity.

The comprehensive drainage strategy that has been developed for the site makes sure that surface water will be managed in a responsible and sensitive way and key features include:

  • Managing rainfall naturally – the SuDs are there to mimic the natural drainage processes and reduce the risk of flooding;
  • The use of controlled discharged rates – surface water will be carefully controlled and released at a restricted rate equivalent to the greenfield conditions and there will be no pressure on the wider drainage network;
  • Integrated SuDs features – these feature at the lowest point of the site with a naturalistic appearance and are suitably landscaped with a matrix of native species planting;
  • Multi-functional green spaces – these will include native species scrub planting to be introduced along the northern edge of the basin to protect the amenity of the rear gardens of adjacent properties.
