Introduction

Crossman Acquisitions Ltd are pleased to share with you their emerging proposals for a new development for student accommodation at Causeway House, Bristol. The proposal is to redevelop the existing, two storey building at Causeway House, introducing an additional four floors providing student accommodation. The building is currently occupied by Design4Life a business which provides community support for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Their tailored day services promote independence, communication, and life skills through a wide-ranging programme including creative therapies, horticulture, music, wellbeing support, and community engagement. These services will remain operational within the retained building as part of the proposed development. Design4Life will continue to occupy the ground and first floors, with students accommodated above.

Project Brief

Design4Life are joint venture partners in this project, working alongside Crossman Acquisitions Ltd, and have had overall control of the project brief to ensure the development responds directly to their operational needs and values. The core principles of the brief are as follows:

1. To safeguard the continuity and quality of Design4Life’s existing care and support activities, ensuring that the proposed development causes no disruption or harm to their day-to-day provision or service users and does not impede upon licensing requirements.

2. To deliver a high standard of architectural and environmental design, that is sensitive to the surrounding townscape and enhances the amenity and experience of both existing service users and future occupiers.

3. To ensure accessibility, inclusion, and wellbeing remain central to the development, reflecting the ethos of Design4Life and contributing positively to the wider community.

4. To ensure that any development maximises the site’s potential and thereby releasing value for reinvestment into Design4Life.

The purpose of this consultation is to obtain feed-back from local residents and stakeholders on the emerging proposals. All comments will be carefully reviewed by Crossman Acquisitions Ltd, and where appropriate will be used to inform the emerging proposals.
